He is the author of Longitudinal Qualitative Research: Analyzing Change through Time, Fundamentals of Qualitative Research, The Coding Manual for Qualitative Researchers, Thinking Qualitatively: Methods of Mind, Ethnotheatre: Research from Page to Stage, Writing Qualitatively: The Selected Works of Johnny Saldaña, co-author with the late Miles and Huberman for Qualitative Data Analysis: A Methods Sourcebook, and co-author with Matt Omasta for Qualitative Research: Analyzing Life. Johnny Saldaña is Professor Emeritus from Arizona State University’s School of Film, Dance, and Theatre. The following is a detailed description of these research types. Below are the most commonly used qualitative research types for writing a research paper. (Enrollment is limited to 50 participants) Researchers collect data of the targeted population, place, or event by using different types of qualitative research analysis.

I also discuss issues of trustworthiness and how matters of objectivity and reliability can be addressed within the naturalistic paradigm.Johnny Saldaña, Arizona State University’s School of Film, Dance, and Theatre The Qualitative Report Content analysis is usually used to analyze responses from interviewees. When to use this method depends on the research questions. It is used to analyze documented information in the form of texts, media, or even physical items. Herein, I share the sources of information that I did find and the methods that I used to address these challenges. Content analysis: This is one of the most common methods to analyze qualitative data. Some authors even confirmed my own experience that few published studies described processes such as coding and methods to evaluate interrater reliability. While my text books explained the general philosophies of the interpretive tradition and its theoretical groundings, I found few published studies where authors actually explained the details pertaining to exactly how they arrived at their findings. One of the first challenges I encountered was the dearth of information regarding the details of qualitative data analysis. I focused on the challenges that I experienced as a first-time qualitative researcher during the course of my dissertation, in the hope that how I addressed those difficulties will better prepare other investigators planning endeavors into this area of research.

The purpose of this article is to provide an overview of some of the principles of data analysis used in qualitative research such as coding, interrater reliability, and thematic analysis.
